In the 1970s, WWF also started working on its own projects. In 1973 he purchased 37,000 hectares of land near Lake Nakuru in Kenya, an important habitat for many birds including flamingos. He has also helped establish nature reserves in Costa Rica, Colombia, Nepal and Mexico, and set up projects in Africa to help protect endangered species such as the white rhino and mountain gorillas. WWF also has many educational projects to teach people about pressing issues such as climate change, habitat destruction and loss of biodiversity. These projects include Earth Hour and Earth Day activities as well as the Apps For Earth project with Apple Corp. But studying all these issues can sometimes leave us feeling sad and losing hope for the future. So WWF is also starting an online project to remind us that a bright and sustainable future is still possible if we all work together. On one such project, WWF and Silverback Films joined forces with digital artist Erik Wernquist to create a short film called Future Visions of Our Planet. WWF then challenged the students and others to write a poem in accordance with the picture and soundtrack of the film
